Gray Glamour!
Can we get enough gray? I don’t think so! 2014 has been a continuation of the trending gray tones. Moving away from the brown colors of the early to mid 2000s gray has made its stamp in all aspects of design. Gray walls, gray cabinets, gray carpet, gray furnishings….whew! The color is calming and chic and comes in hundreds of different tones.

Tip: Want to turn it up a notch for 2015? Add acid washed wooden chandeliers, bold patterns, and a splash of gold!

Distressed Wood Wonderland!
Every where you look people are using distressed wood in their homes. Whether it is legit barn wood or new wood that has been hand scraped to imitate barn wood, it is EVERYWHERE! The best room designs are ones that mix texture and materials in that perfect way that makes the space interesting yet encourages people to spend time in it.

Tip: To update your space for 2015, mix this trend with different materials such as crystal chandeliers, mercury glass and mirrored tables.

The Grass isn’t always “Green”er!
The term “green” is being used in all aspects of the housing industry; design, real estate, building products….this is it, the term that can literally make or break the sale of a home or product. Be aware, though, it is used loosely and “green” isn’t a regulated term. It’s is important to do your research and use common sense!

One common misconception; tearing out the current items in your house to replace them with “green” products is common practice but when you consider the fact that a lot of people are ripping out perfectly good items and throwing them away, how is this “green”? Throwing away good things is never green! Try to refinish or reuse those items in a different application in your home; ie, old base cabinets can be reconfigured to function as a kitchen island or bathroom vanity rather than purchasing new…..be creative….you’ll save money and resources!

Tip: 2015 is going to bring on a whole new slew of earth friendly products, you won’t be able to keep up! Talk to your local hardware store crews and design specialists for updates on new and improved products!

Tantalizing Tile!
Interesting tile shapes have come full circle, you can’t go wrong. From classic herringbone to morrocan lantern shapes, it all has it’s place. We have seen Morrocan tile patterns become increasingly popular and this will continue into the new year as the monochromatic grays are beginning to mix with bold colors and patterns. Tile is a great way to add a focal point or conversation piece in a room.

Tip:Love the barn style trend but also love exotic tile patterns? Go ahead, mix away! Piling pattern on pattern is the key to trendy design in 2015!
