Good morning, good morning! fresh lifestyle Monday is back and this one packs a punch!
Today I am sharing something that is so comforting and rich but with an added twist for a Monday morning. If you have ever tried “golden milk” then you need to try this too! It is basically golden milk with a caffeine kick. I originally found this recipe in the Kristin Cavallari cook book “True Roots”, which I highly recommend. I tweaked it alittle bit to fit my tastes but it’s soooo good and good for you that I had to make this one of the fresh lifestyle picks!
Turmeric is a potent anti-inflammatory and is said to calm skin conditions like eczema and rosacea, the more you can add to your foods the better.
Raw honey is best described as removed from the hive and bottled. It has many enzymes, minerals and amino acids. Polyphenols which are powerful antioxidants. Regular honey is processed with many more steps removing beneficial nutrients like pollen and other enzymes, some even have added sugar or corn syrup. Vanilla Bean Powder Vanilla is anything but vanilla, its one of the most widely used flavors in baking and carries a classic, warm flavor. Vanilla bean is basically the plant ground up and packaged where extract is baked & soaked in alcohol therefore packing less of the original vitamins and minerals. (This brand has a similar product to Kiva Wild Vanilla Powder).
**Side warning for this recipe; be careful with your countertops, turmeric is a really potent dye if it touches you kitchen surfaces! Other than that, enjoy!!
1 cup WHOLE MILK
1/4 cup CANNED COCONUT MILK (with solids) 1 tbsp RAW HONEY
1/2 tbsp GROUND TURMERIC
1 TO 2 SHOTS OF ESPRESSO 1 tsp PURE VANILLA BEAN POWDER ADD MORE OR LESS MILK TO GET DESIRED FLAVOR
*USE ORGANIC WHEN POSSIBLE
1) Add all liquid ingredients to a soup pan and heat until honey & coconut milk is melted. (Choose your preference; Almond milk, Oat milk or whole milk)
2) remove from heat, spoon in Turmeric & whisk, pour into cup
3) Brew 2 Shots of espresso directly into cup 4) Top with Pure Vanilla Bean Powder and enjoy hot!
*USE ORGANIC WHEN POSSIBLE
As always, recipes are meant to be adjusted to suit your tastes. If you can handle a stronger flavor, add more Turmeric. Or if you like less espresso, only add 1 shot. This can also be made directly in your espresso mug if you are in a rush by following all of the above directions but heating in the microwave instead of on the stove top. Happy Monday!
