Baby it’s cold outside! Make your home feel warm and cozy for the holidays with these simple decor ideas! Even if you are selling your home, you can still enjoy your holiday decorations if you keep it simple and tasteful. Stick to the basics, a tree, a wreath, garland here & there…….some simple outside lighting if absolutely necessary! Need tips on staging your home for a sale checkout Staging 2016!
Choose your color and stick with it; silver, gold, red, green, blue….even pink! There are many color options for Christmas decor but stick with only a couple throughout the house to avoid a Christmas decoration hodge podge. Love your keepsake ornaments that are in a variety of colors? Use them, but add large bows or globes in your color theme to tie it together with the rest of your Christmas decor.
Start the season off with a family photo. Its a great way to watch everyone grow each year and a better way to keep in touch by sending out a photo Christmas greeting to friends and family! We haven’t sent out a holiday card in a few years but being that we just added Turtle to the fam, thought it was time! You can have photos done or take them yourselves. Just make sure you have good lighting and time to take multiple shots. Your photos will turn out great if you have options to choose from!
Poinsettias are classic and a must at Christmas time! The beautiful, deep red flower is the perfect accessory to any room. A pop of red can truly bring out the Christmas spirit!
Cinnamon scented pine cones, yessssss! These can be used throughout your entire house. Stick them in wreaths, on shelves or in the tree! They take the place of room fresheners and fill the house with a wonderful holiday scent!
An awesome tree skirt is a must. Faux fur, ruffled ribbons or a simple quilt….match your decor theme and go for something that really finishes off the tree. It hides the ugly tree stand legs and functions as a place to highlight the presents under the tree.
Candles, candles, candles! They creat ambiance when watching Christmas movies or having intimate family dinners and I can’t get enough. Scented soy candles are available everywhere now and assure that you are burning healthy candles in your home. Another option I love are dollar stores tall, thin pillar candles in a clear glass vase. They go with any decor and I like to refill the vases with soy candle wax once the old wax is burnt away! *Adding dimmer switches is also a great way to create holiday ambience.
A perfect holiday drink when entertaining is a must. It can be a simple feature cocktail of egg nog and brandy or something a bit more fancy such as a holiday spiked punch or a craft cocktail. A drink station with a clear liquor option, charged water, simple syrup and flavored syrups is an inexpensive way to dress up your party. Making your own simple syrups and putting them in cute serving bottles saves money and adds style! I also love a champagne with a splash of elderflower liquor!
