There is much more to a home renovation than what immediately meets your eye. Caulking spaces in woodwork, a nice paint line where the ceiling meets the wall and plumbing that is done meticulously straight are all perfect examples of the details in a project that can make it fabulous or frumpy!
I recently photographed a woodwork painting project I was working on. Prior to painting I always go around and fill cracks, holes and dents with caulking or wall putty. This creates a perfect surface for painting. I then go around a second time after the first coat is put on and fill the smaller dents and spaces that show up after everything has been painted a uniform color. I love a smooth and even finish!
The photos above show an enormous difference in what the finished product will look like if the space was never filled. If you are doing projects on your own, take the time to do it correctly. Your end result will be much better and look professionally done. If you are hiring the job, a good contractor and designer can spot the flaws from a mile away which is why it is important to find good help! Do your research before hiring and make sure you are confident in the people you are working with, they will be guiding you through the project and the end result will rely largely on their eye for detail!
