The Northwoods Estates master Suite renovation is complete and I couldn’t be happier with the outcome! Let me tell you a little bit about this process. The home was purchased as an investment property in October. It is a rundown, bank owned property in a great neighborhood. Built in the mid 90’s, this house was a custom built home with a serene creek running through the back of the 1.5acres. Willow trees line the creek and a large yard accentuates the great things about this home. It just needed to be revived to its original glory. The original master suite had great bones…a walk in closet, ensuite private bathroom, separate toilet closet, vaulted ceilings and a private deck…but as you can see below, had not been taken care of.
The room needed to be updated and upgraded! A large patio door was put in to replace the old rotten window and door. The new door spans 10ft from the door to the edge of the window and lets it much needed light! The carpet, old tiling, sunken tub and popcorn ceilings were all removed and replaced. In-floor heat was installed, a necessary addition to any luxury bathroom in any area of the world with cold winters!
Dan and I had a race with the tiling of the 2 showers. He did the one on the right, I did the one on the left (have to add some fun and competition when doing these grueling renovations!)! There’s not much difference when comparing the 2, we are both pretty good 🙂 but it made the project go much faster! These major projects couldn’t be done without both of us working together. With all of the renovation shows out there where the people don’t actually do the work, it makes me thankful that Dan and I are capable it! Fame fades, skill doesn’t!
The color scheme is one of the best parts in planning a space. It is the part where you start to see the project come together. A mix of metals, gold and silver, were used to create high impact. The gold neutralized the gray tones that went throughout the master suite. Gold makes a room feel soft and luxurious while the gray and silver gives a modern feel.
The vanities were in good shape and I was able to refinish them and re-use in the renovated bathroom. New countertops, hardware and sinks completed the look. Refinished furniture can add interest to any space and can save you money! These pieces were in great shape. They were refinished by the second hand store I purchased them from but not in the color I wanted so I painted the pieces gray with a high quality oil-based paint that matched the vanities in the bathroom….perfect!
The walls of the bedroom were covered floor to ceiling in a gray, high quality wallpaper. It has a subtle stripe and texture giving the room a luxury hotel vibe. I love, love wallpaper but you have to be careful with the print you use when doing a renovation property, it must appeal to many people for resale!
Staging and decor is the finishing touch that really makes or breaks a room, if it isn’t set up right it just doesn’t live up to its potential. Bringing in darker colors and different textures is important when doing a room the is very monochromatic. The decor is to die for and the room is so serene and luxurious!
And the his and hers showers, amazing! It creates a beautiful focal point as you walk down the hall into the bathroom, an important part to design is what you see when you immediately walk into a room!
Aside from the tv show and real estate clients, this was one of the first times I have used a professional photographer in a renovation project and it was definitely worth it! The quality is unsurpassed and super high res for print ads and magazine features. One more space complete, what do you think?!
