Our January trip to Dallas was filled with new trends, fresh ideas and some exciting surprises from our vendors. It left us brimming with anticipation of what’s next to come in the lighting industry for 2017, and many new ideas to incorporate into the Creative Lighting showroom.

Lightovation…

GOLD, GOLD…and more GOLD!
Simply put, GOLD is HOT.  35%-40% of all new introductions seen at market where either in antique brass, gold leaf or multi-finish designs with gold accents. Combination finishes were all the rage.  Polished nickel with gold.  Oil-rubbed bronze with gold.  This metal finish has paved it’s way to the forefront and is forging ahead like a speeding freight train. Embrace it, or look out!

MODERN-INDUSTRIAL GOING STRONG: 
Modern-Industrial style has woven through nearly every lighting manufacturer’s product offering.  Clean, minimalist designs using clear glass and vintage Edison lamps are everywhere, and being widely embraced by the consumer.  This transitional look has a very “HGTV” aesthetic- need we say more?

MORE ON MID-CENTURY
: For our lovers of all things MOD…you’re in luck.  The iconic Mid-Century Modern style is still going strong.  Product designs keep getting more refined and sophisticated, and the affection for wood materials has made a big comeback in the lighting industry.  The combination of smooth metals with warm wood finishes is oh-so on-trend.  And, most of the new product designs in this style category were in what finish?  You guessed it… GOLD! 

SPARKLE AND SHINE: 
We are all suckers for a little sparkle, aren’t we?  There is a classic element to glass and crystal that, when done well, just seems to transcend time.  This is proven to us year after year, during every market event, when we are repeatedly shown new product designs integrated with crystal.  This year was no different.  Manufacturers continued to WOW us with beautiful crystal fixtures, in fresh, new ways.  Bath fixtures, pendant lighting, wall sconces…we just love a little glamour in our lives, and in our lights.

BEST IN SHOW
: A lighting veteran made a big and bold market appearance this year.  Dainolite was filled with delightfully fresh design releases- of great scale and beautiful finish quality.  They were one of our most talked about lighting manufacturers throughout the entire trip! We were more than impressed and are eager to see how they continue to evolve their modern product line.  This was their best release we have seen to date!
