Our most recent project on the Northwoods house has been the master suite. The outdated and dingy space had the necessary bones of a great renovated space; size, ensuite master bath, walk in closet, vaulted ceiling, private deck….need I say more!
The separate door and window was a major downfall to this room, impeding on the serene view of the creek and willow tress in the back yard. A large patio door spanning the width from the door to the end of the window was the plan to improve this space.
When adding a large door you need to make sure the proper header is put into place so the wall can continue to support the space above. The local building inspector can tell you what needs to be done when you purchase the permit for the job. Dan, being a plumber, hired a contractor friend to help him place the door and make sure it was installed correctly. Installation is of utmost importance! When doors and windows are not installed correctly it can cause leaking and further down the road rotting of wood and mold.
Along with the major change of the patio door, new carpet, knock down ceiling, paint, wallpaper and lighting will be replaced.
This project is moving along quick so stay tuned for final photos of the finished product! I am dying to wake up in the morning to the warm, summer breeze coming into the bedroom!
