Many prominent designers have drawn inspiration from the world around them. One of the most famous homes ever built was done by architect Frank Lloyd Wright. He built one of his most famous homes “Fallingwater” right into the surrounding landscape. The owners wanted a view of the waterfall but Wright wanted them to live with the waterfall! And so he built the home atop the falling water of Bear Run Creek.
Walking through the Minneapolis farmers market this weekend I couldn’t help but notice all of the colors and textures of the fruits, vegetables and homemade treats being sold by the local vendors.
An array of ideas for fabrics, wall treatments and custom designs flooded my mind. I could see popular design trends mimicked in the colors of the fruits and the textures of the vegetables.
Especially in the current design trend where repurposed and rough wood is being seen in so many different applications, nature is such a driver for design. The honey stand was my fav of the day! In multiple shades of gold, the jars had a richness to them that was so luxurious! Soft golds are coming back strong in interior design and the array of shades that sat on that table was a perfect example of how I find interior design inspiration from the world around me! The deep purple of the cabbage and the shapes in the green cauliflower would make for great accent pieces or wallpaper prints!
Sitting quietly and marveling at something, even the small somethings, is when I get my best ideas. Call me crazy but I think many designers would agree!
