I recently helped to renovate and redecorate a family home in need of an update. They are considering a move and wanted to make the home more appealing to buyers or potentially make enough changes that would convince them to stay in the home.

The early 2000 home was in good condition and had great features; soaring ceilings and open spaces but had outdated, blonde oak throughout the home (a common color and wood widely used for many years). With styles moving towards painted or dark stained wood, the family wanted to brighten the home by refinishing the woodwork in white enamel paint. Other renovation projects consisted of repainting the walls in cool gray tones, replacing the laminate countertops with granite, a tile backsplash, new lighting fixtures and brand new furnishings.

A big portion of this renovation was cosmetic so there were no structural changes needed which kept the budget focused on updates rather than demo and rebuilding. The focus on the design and furnishings. They wanted to incorporate modern gray colors but it was important that the oak still blended well with the home. The horse canvas painting had flecks of gold and gray which tied together the colors of the space. Golds, grays and whites  were strategically placed around the room and custom family photos were added to personalize the space. A fur throw and two statement lamps finished off the space!
